Downsizing Your Home in Ajax

The Kids are gone, they are either in university on their way to independence or they have actually finished university and found their career job.  Retirement is looming or maybe it’s actually here. Does this sound familiar?

Now you are thinking its time for US! Again. Gosh there are so many options; the house is just too big now and there is so much to do to get ready to move.

So who is going to buy our house? Why would they want to buy in Ajax?  Well Ajax is very appealing to many young families.

Ajax is a town in Durham Region east of Toronto. It has a vibrant waterfront on Lake Ontario, with excellent access to Toronto via Highway 401 and the Go train.

Here is a little history about Ajax. You may not even know this. The town of Ajax is named for the HMS Ajax, a British warship that served in the Second World War. The town itself is about 25 kilometres east of Toronto.

Throughout Ajax you’ll find reminders of the Town’s early beginnings – historic sites and landmarks, each with stories of times past like Veterans Point Garden, a historic Pickering Village walk (by the way we have an office on the main street) and an original Quaker Settlement from the 1800’s now home to shopping and restaurants.

There are so many things to do in Ajax including walking or cycling the waterfront trails, enjoying the many wonderful restaurants, golfing, canoeing, shopping, horse races at Ajax Downs, and more.

The housing stock in Ajax is broad. It ranges from wartime bungalows to large homes in new subdivisions, and everything in between including condos and townhouses.

What is nice about the area is that it is super kid and Family friendly and young families are interested in your area!  The communities are well established with fantastic schools and community centres and lots of interesting festivities to attend all year long.

Transitions In Life

We often can’t control where life will take us. Life events like retirement, job loss, new job, changes in marital status, new grandchildren, etc., take us in different directions. As the saying goes, life is what happens to us while we are making other plans. Any one of these situations could result in a need to transition to another home.

I have a story for you.  Recently one of our Durham empty-nester clients downsized from an executive-size bungalow to a smaller home in the heart of the nearby city of Oshawa so that she would be near to all the amenities a small city would offer.

I was holding an open house for her gorgeous bungalow with a full walk out basement. It was a lot of house for one person. The lot required time consuming maintenance and she was a busy professional.   Buyers who came in to view the home were looking to move closer to their adult children. This is actually a trend. Grandparents want to be close to their grandkids. They wanted to be hands on and nearby. They were willing to give up the Toronto city life and move to Ajax. It was perfect for them and located within walking distance to their daughter and they bought the house! It was a win-win for everyone!
