It’s definitely an in-demand area. There are several housing styles and at different price levels so that Families and singles alike have housing choices. It’s a great city for multi-generational living. So the Family that is wanting the home to raise the kids can live adjacent to other Family members that may choose smaller styles such as Townhomes or condos.
Markham is immediately north of the part of the City of Toronto that lies east of Yonge Street. This provides the benefit of having only one land transfer tax.
Markham is made up of many original 19th-century communities, each with a distinctive character, two of the more well-known being Markham Village and Unionville. Many of the newer residential neighbourhoods, such as Berczy Village, are planned communities incorporating elements of old-world charm. Buyers will find a variety of housing to choose from within all of these neighbourhoods of expansive Markham.
It is very transportation friendly. In addition to the GO Transit Stouffville line providing commuter rail service to downtown Toronto, York Region Transit (YRT) connects Markham with surrounding municipalities in York Region, and was created in 2001 from the merger several smaller transit services in York Region. The YRT Viva bus rapid transit connects to the TTC subway at Finch station along Yonge Street, and at Don Mills station.

Here’s a story for you. We were called in by past clients who we had sold a home to years earlier. It was time for their elderly parents to move to a condo. We met with the extended family as we often do when it’s time for Senior parents to sell their long held large family home. We met with the Seniors and three of their adult children, each of them wishing to contribute to the plans on the sale of the home.

On consulting with the Family, we decided that this Senior couple would sell their home first with a long closing period. Once the house was sold we found them a large 2 bedroom plus den condo in a community in Markham that met their needs. They wanted a specific exposure, and we were able to find the right unit with the right exposure. A successful conclusion to their journey!
