Downsizing Your Home in Mississauga

Thinking of Downsizing your home in Mississauga? Downsizing from any long-held home is a big deal. The great thing about this city is that although it may be time to look at a simpler solution to housing that doesn’t mean you have to move too far. There are so many fantastic condo buildings located in the city that you will be sure to find the right one for you. Many Buyers are looking at Mississauga. It’s about the variety of homes and lot sizes for Family living. It’s about the great schools and amenities galore not to mention the Square One mall – one of Canada’s best malls. There is proximity to transportation and highways.

Mississauga has it all! From its proximity to Toronto to its attraction of a multicultural population and a built up thriving central business district. It is also home to Toronto Pearson International Airport, Canada’s busiest airport.  It’s also the headquarters of many Canadian and multinational corporations. These companies employ hundreds of thousands of people and many love to live near to where they work!

Mississauga is not a traditional city, but is instead an amalgamation of a series of former villages, Port Credit and Streetsville being two of the larger and better known.

There are so many recreational opportunities. It’s a very Family-centric city. On the lakefront, Port Credit has shops, restaurants, and a marina. Multi-use trails wind through the city’s parks and woodlands. Mississauga Celebration Square hosts multicultural festivals and has a skating rink in winter, not to mention fireworks on July 1. A popular shopping destination, the city has several huge malls.

Commuter rail service is provided by GO Transit. A new rapid transit line (Hurontario LRT) is under construction with an expected completion date in 2024.

Mississauga appeals to families with its larger homes, recreational opportunities, proximity to Lake Ontario, and commuting distance to Toronto.

One very important fact is that being outside of Toronto, Buyers will only pay one Land Transfer Tax.

Transitions In Life

Here’s a story for you. Recently we helped a couple sell their large home in Mississauga. They had lived there for approximately 15 years. They were empty nesters and wanted to sell their home to move to Hamilton which was a less expensive city in which to buy a home. They also wanted a project. They ended up buying a Victorian home in the west end of the city. They planned the reno project to suit their exact tastes. They wanted the pine floors and the high ceilings as well as a custom chef kitchen as the husband was an accomplished resident chef. This home was not smaller in square feet at all. Their 4-bedroom home was approx. 2200 sf and their new Victorian semi-detached home in Hamilton was 2300 sf. So, this would be considered a Rightsizing move and not necessarily a Downsizing move.
