Downsizing Your Home in Oshawa

Get free e-book

So you think it’s time to Downsize your home in Oshawa?  The time has never been better as the prices in Oshawa have seen some of the highest increases in the GTA. Once more affordable so many of the Toronto buyers have bid the values up to the now escalated prices we see but this is all good news for those looking to Downsize from their all too large homes.

Oshawa is a full service City in Durham Region east of Toronto. The south end of Oshawa borders on Lake Ontario. There is easy access via Highway 401, and the 407 East extension.

Once known as the automotive capital of Canada, Oshawa today is moving from being a manufacturing centre to becoming an education and health sciences hub. Three post-secondary institutions are located in Oshawa: Durham CollegeTrent University Durham and University of Ontario Institute of Technology as well as the Lakeridge Health Education and Research Network (LHEARN). It is getting a phenomenal new identity.

Last summer we went to the magnificent Parkwood Estate Gardens on the grounds of the Parkwood Estate, once the residence of Samuel McLaughlin, founder of General Motors of Canada. The gardens are designed much like a traditional English garden and are a great place for a meal on the patio during the summer. Watch out for the bees though! Lunch was great and we walked around the estate; it was a very enjoyable outing.

Remember, there in only a single Lands Transfer Tax in Oshawa!

Transitions In Life

Life events like retirement, job loss, new job, illness, changes in marital status, new grandchildren, etc., take us in different directions. As the saying goes – often attributed to John Lennon – life is what happens to us while we are busy making other plans. Any one of these situations could result in a need to transition to another home.

Right-sizing to a new home takes many forms. Like the story above, an Oshawa homeowner may be looking to “cash-out” of their expensive home and buy a less expensive property in the city, like a condo, or move out entirely to a smaller community, closer to nature, yet with all the amenities and access to the activities they enjoy.
