Downsizing Your Home in Pickering

Get free e-book

The house is just too big.  I want to cash out of my big home with no mortgage and move to the town I grew up in.  I have family and friends there still and the housing is less expensive.  I will invest the excess monies to fund my retirement and travel fund.  I want to Downsize my home in Pickering.

Now who is going to buy my home here in Pickering?

Pickering is a City in Durham Region immediately east of Toronto. This makes Pickering very attractive to those who work in Toronto. It has a gorgeous waterfront on Lake Ontario and is easily accessible to Highway 401 and the GO Train. Many people are pleasantly surprised at the close proximity to Toronto. House prices are lower than in Toronto proper, although the gap is closing. And don’t forget for those who are in the know there is only one Land Transfer tax on this side of the Toronto/Pickering border. That’s a huge savings!

One of Pickering’s highlights is the sprawling Rouge National Urban Park. When you’re inside the Park it’s hard to believe you are so close to Canada’s largest metropolis. Established in 1995, it is home to wetlands, farmlands and conservation areas. It’s spectacular and provides trails and hours of Family Fun, whether hiking in the spring, summer and fall, and snow shoeing or cross-country skiing in the winter.

Pickering’s Nautical Village sits along the edge of Lake Ontario. Enjoy quaint shops, ice cream parlours, bakeries and cafés. The beach with volleyball nets and swimming areas is another Family favourite.

Homeowners who are Boaters can spend time at the Frenchman’s Bay Yacht Club, and marinas catering to boaters. It’s beautiful!

The Waterfront Trail is an absolutely awesome trail that is so long that is runs from Niagara-on-the-Lake all the way east to Cornwall! The Pickering portion of the trail starts at Rouge Beach Park and continues east around Frenchman’s Bay (wow, what an awesome go to spot in Pickering!).

Pickering City Centre hosts a regular Farmer’s market. For those looking for more excitement the city also includes the development of Durham Live, a multi-billion-dollar casino complex.

Remember, there in only one Lands Transfer Tax in Pickering!

Transitions In Life

Let me tell you a real-life story.  One of our more recent sales involved a boomer couple with a 3,000 sq ft home in Pickering. The house was just too big and the lot was too much work. The yard work alone was taking up most of the weekend, not to mention shovelling the large driveway in winter. The Seller took so much pride in his lawn and the home was maintained meticulously. They called us in and said time to sell! We want to simplify. These Buyers chose to sell first with a long closing as they wanted to know exactly the budget they had before going condo shopping.  Once the house was sold, we found the perfect condo in neighbouring Scarborough that ticked all the boxes and enabled them to pursue their passion of travel. They sold all of their furniture with a Toronto GTA auctioneer and bought all new furniture for their new condo.

In this case they did Downsize in some cases people like to refer to it as Right sizing.  Whatever the term the goal is to simplify or in some cases change their surroundings to achieve a dream they have always had.  Either way change can be good!
