Let’s paint a scenario which may sound familiar.

You’ve been living in your current home for some 20 to 30 or more years. The kids have grown up there and have flown the coop as they say.  Maybe they are in University or they have finished school and on to their career jobs and are living downtown in condos on their own or with friends.  You may be close to retirement age but maybe not quite retired or you may even be retired.  You actually have time to consider yourself again; wow, what to do… there are so many options….and so much to do to make any change happen.

One thing is for certain, you have lived a busy life and in all those years have accumulated lots of stuff! Your stuff, and the stuff your young adult children left behind because they either had no time to go through it themselves or nowhere to store in their own pad.  Sound familiar?  The task of going through the house alone is daunting let alone wondering what is the next stage of life going to look like.  So many of us have stalled decisions just because of the planning required to make the changes we need to make to get to the other side (lol).

Do we stay in the city or maybe sell the family house and buy a condo?  Or do we go outside of Toronto and the GTA and look for a home back in or near to the hometown area where we grew up in as kids or do we do something completely different like live somewhere where there are communities, thriving communities, where we can buy a modern house purpose built for maturing populations, with exterior maintenance included, maybe on a lake or a golf course.  So many intriguing options we may not have considered. Or do we just cash out completely and rent then TRAVEL and explore the World!

Downsizing can refer to any small or large change we will make in our lives from as little as cleaning out the basement and garage, downsizing our stuff, to selling that family home and making a move.

We will plan to explore the process, the thinking and planning it will take to get to the next Act as Jane Fonda affectionately referred to it in one of her more recent books, Different Digs.
